Zonegran® (zonisamide) is a prescription medication used to treat partial seizures, a certain type of epileptic seizure. Weight loss is one of the possible side effects that have been reported with this drug.

How Common Is Weight Loss With Zonegran?

In clinical studies, up to 3 percent of people taking Zonegran to treat partial seizures experienced weight loss, compared to 2 percent of people in a similar group not taking it. Appetite loss is also common, occurring in up to 13 percent of people taking Zonegran (compared to 6 percent of those not taking the drug).
