Zarontin Drug Interactions

When certain medications are taken along with Zarontin, drug interactions may occur. Some of the medications that can cause these interactions include certain antibiotics, other seizure medications, and protease inhibitors. These drug interactions with Zarontin can alter the amounts of the medications in your blood, possibly increasing your risk of side effects or decreasing the effectiveness of the drug. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these medications.

 

An Overview of Zarontin Drug Interactions

Zarontin® (ethosuximide) can potentially interact with other medications, particularly other seizure medications. Some of these medicines that may lead to Zarontin interactions include:
 
  • Certain antibiotics or antifungals, including:
o Clarithromycin (Biaxin®)
o Erythromycin (Ery-Tab®)
o Isoniazid (Nydrazid®)
o Itraconazole (Sporanox®)
o Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
o Miconazole
o Telithromycin (Ketek®) 
  • Certain anticonvulsants, including:
o Carbamazepine (Carbatrol®, Epitol®, Equetro™, Tegretol®, Tegretol XR®)
o Fosphenytoin (Cerebyx®)
o Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
o Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
  • Protease inhibitors, such as:
