Vimpat Uses

How Does It Work?

Seizures are the result of brief changes in how the brain's electrical system works. It is not known exactly how Vimpat works for treating seizures. Studies suggest that it may work by affecting sodium channels in the brain, preventing the abnormal activity from "firing" and spreading to other parts of the brain. This action helps control seizures.

Vimpat Use in Children or Teens

Vimpat is approved for use in people age 17 years old and older. It is not approved in younger adolescents and children, as it has not been adequately studied in these age groups. Talk with your child's healthcare provider about the benefits and risks of using Vimpat in children.

Off-Label Uses of Vimpat

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Vimpat for something other than partial-onset seizures. For example, this medication is sometimes used off-label for the treatment of diabetic neuropathic pain.
