Tranxene Dosage

Tranxene Dosage for Anxiety

The recommended starting dose of Tranxene for the treatment of anxiety is Tranxene 7.5 to 15 mg per day, either taken all at once at bedtime or split up into smaller doses throughout the day. Your healthcare provider may adjust your dose as necessary, increasing it if needed to control your anxiety symptoms or decreasing it if you develop bothersome Tranxene side effects.
Immediate-release Tranxene T-Tabs (or generic clorazepate) should be used in these cases when starting the drug and determining the best dose. Once you and your healthcare provider have found the best Tranxene dosage for you, you may be switched to extended-release Tranxene-SD tablets. People taking Tranxene T-Tabs 7.5 mg three times daily can be switched to Tranxene-SD 22.5 mg once daily. Those taking Tranxene T-Tabs 3.75 mg three times daily may be switched to Tranxene-SD 12.25 mg once daily.

Tranxene Dosage for Epilepsy

The recommended starting dose of Tranxene for controlling partial seizures in adults and adolescents age 12 and older is Tranxene 7.5 mg three times daily. Your healthcare provider may increase your dose as necessary, up to a maximum of 90 mg total per day.
For children ages 9 to 12, the recommended starting dose is Tranxene 7.5 mg twice daily. Your child's healthcare provider may increase the dose as necessary, up to a maximum of 60 mg per day.
Only the regular immediate-release Tranxene T-Tabs (or generic clorazepate) is recommended for this use. Extended-release Tranxene-SD tablets should not be used for treating seizures. Also, it is important to remember that Tranxene is not approved to be used alone to treat partial seizures; it is only approved to be used in combination with other seizure medications.

General Information on Dosing With Tranxene

Considerations for people taking Tranxene include the following:
  • The medication is available in short-acting tablets (Tranxene T-Tabs) and long-acting tablets (Tranxene-SD). It is usually taken one to three times daily (depending on the particular product and the dosage).
  • Tranxene can be taken with or without food. If the medication bothers your stomach, try taking it with food.
  • For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. Tranxene may cause serious problems if you take it at higher dosages or for a longer period of time than your healthcare provider recommends (see Tranxene Addiction).
