Topamax Drug Interactions

Valproic Acid (Depakene) or Divalproex Sodium (Depakote, Depakote ER)
Taking valproic acid or divalproex sodium with Topamax can decrease the level of both Topamax and valproic acid or divalproex sodium in your blood, perhaps making the drugs less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to increase your dose of these medications. Also, taking these medications together can increase the level of ammonia in your blood, putting you at risk for brain problems. The combination may also increase the risk of hypothermia.
