Many studies using Tegretol for bipolar disorder have been published. Generally, these studies have found the drug to be safe and effective when used to treat this condition. In fact, a different brand of carbamazepine (Equetro®) is already approved to treat acute and mixed manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder.
 

Tegretol for Bipolar Disorder: Final Thoughts

Tegretol is commonly used off-label to treat bipolar disorder. However, it is important to remember that the drug is not approved for the treatment of bipolar disorder and the full risks of using it in this way are not fully known.
