Tegretol Drug Interactions

Cimetidine
Cimetidine can increase the level of Tegretol in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. In general, you should not take these medications together. There are many other cimetidine alternatives that do not interact with Tegretol.
 
Cyclosporine
Tegretol can decrease the level of cyclosporine in your blood, perhaps making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to increase your cyclosporine dosage to prevent drug interactions from occurring.
 
Danazol
Danazol can increase the level of Tegretol in your blood, possibly increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor the level of Tegretol in your blood and adjust your dosage as necessary.
 
Doxorubicin
Doxorubicin can decrease the level of Tegretol in your blood, perhaps making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor the level of Tegretol in your blood and adjust your dosage as necessary.
 
Doxycycline
Tegretol can decrease the level of doxycycline in your blood, perhaps making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to increase your doxycycline dosage to prevent this from occurring.
 
Grapefruit Juice
Grapefruit juice can increase the level of Tegretol in your blood, possibly increasing your risk of side effects. In general, you should not drink grapefruit juice if you are taking Tegretol. If your healthcare provider decides that you may drink grapefruit juice, you should do so consistently and in moderation.
 
Hormone Contraceptives
Tegretol can make hormone contraceptives (including birth control pills, implants, patches, and rings) less effective, increasing your chance of pregnancy. Talk to your healthcare provider about non-hormonal forms of contraception (such as condoms).
