Primidone Alternatives

Some alternatives to primidone include other seizure medications, surgery, or a special diet. These alternatives may be necessary if primidone is not adequately controlling your seizures or if you are developing bothersome side effects. Some of the other seizure medications that are considered primidone alternatives include carbamazepine, ethosuximide, and divalproex sodium.

 

An Overview of Primidone Alternatives

Primidone (Mysoline®) is a prescription medication used to treat epileptic seizures. Specifically, it is approved to treat grand mal seizures and partial seizures.
 
Primidone is usually an effective medication for controlling seizures, and people often tolerate this medication well. However, as with all medications, bothersome or dangerous primidone side effects may occur. Also, in some situations, primidone may not adequately control seizures.
