Phenytek Side Effects

Although most people do not experience any problems while taking Phenytek, side effects can occur during treatment with the medication. The most common Phenytek side effects include slurred speech, unusual eye movements, and confusion. If you develop more serious side effects of Phenytek, such as unusual bleeding or seizures that are becoming worse, be sure to contact your healthcare provider right away.

An Introduction to Phenytek Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Phenytek® (phenytoin sodium). However, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.

(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Phenytek. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of side effects with you.)

Common Phenytek Side Effects

Phenytek contains phenytoin, an older medication. With older medications, less information is available about potential side effects (and how frequently they occur), compared to newer medications. As a result, instead of listing the exact percentage of each side effect, side effects are divided into broad groups (such as "common" or "possible").

The most common side effects of Phenytek include:

  • Slurred speech
  • Unusual eye movements
  • Muscle coordination problems
  • Confusion.

Other possible side effects include:

  • Larger or fuller lips
  • Problems with the gums (including swelling, tenderness, and unusual growth)
