Peganone Side Effects

Contact your healthcare provider if you are taking Peganone and develop problems like chest pain, thoughts of suicide, or unexplained bruising. Although reactions such as these may be potentially serious, most side effects of Peganone tend to be minor and easy to treat. Some of the more commonly reported reactions include headaches, fatigue, and involuntary eye movements.

An Introduction to Peganone Side Effects

Just like any medicine, Peganone® (ethotoin) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the drug will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Peganone. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)

Possible Side Effects of Peganone

Because Peganone is an older medication, there is limited information available about possible side effects and how frequently they occur. As a result, exact percentages are not available.
Some of the possible bothersome (but not usually dangerous) side effects of Peganone include:
  • Involuntary eye movements
  • Double vision
  • Nausea and vomiting (especially if Peganone is not taken after a meal)
  • Fever
  • Dizziness
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Insomnia
  • Fatigue
  • Numbness.
Overgrowth of the gums and coordination problems have also been reported, but only when Peganone was used in combination with other seizure medications known to cause such problems.
