More Information on Peganone and Breastfeeding

While it is known that Peganone passes through breast milk, it is unknown if it causes problems in nursing infants. Peganone is an old and rarely used medication, and there is simply no information available to know if it is safe for use while breastfeeding.

If your healthcare provider recommends that you take Peganone while continuing to breastfeed, make sure to watch for any possible side effects in your child (see Peganone Side Effects). It would also be a good idea for your child's healthcare provider to regularly monitor your child for potential problems.

However, in many situations, it is preferable that a women not breastfeed while taking Peganone, as the risks to the child are simply too high and because formula feeding provides a nutritious and acceptable alternative.

Talking With Your Healthcare Provider

After considering what you want and expect, as well as your current health situation, the two of you can make a shared decision that is right for you.
