Onfi Side Effects
Drowsiness, aggression, and constipation are some of the most commonly reported side effects with Onfi. In most cases, reactions such as these are mild and generally easy to treat. However, contact your healthcare provider immediately if you develop potentially serious problems, such as anxiety, suicidal thoughts, or problems with balance. Stopping this medicine too soon can cause withdrawal symptoms, which can also be dangerous.
An Introduction to Onfi Side EffectsJust like any medicine, Onfi™ (clobazam) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Onfi. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)
Common Side Effects of OnfiOnfi has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people taking Onfi (plus their usual seizure medications) were documented and compared to the side effects that occurred in another group of people taking their usual seizure medications plus a placebo (a "sugar pill" that does not contain any active ingredients). As a result, it was possible to see what side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the group taking the placebo.
Because Onfi was added to other seizure medications (not used alone) in clinical studies, the information from these studies probably does not accurately reflect the true incidence of side effects that were specifically caused by Onfi.
In these studies, the most common side effects of Onfi (plus other seizure medications) included:
- Drowsiness -- in up to 32 percent of people
- Fever -- up to 17 percent
- Lethargy -- up to 15 percent
- Aggression -- up to 14 percent
- Upper respiratory tract infections (such as the common cold) -- up to 14 percent
- Drooling -- up to 14 percent
- Irritability -- up to 11 percent
- Problems with muscle coordination -- up to 10 percent
- Constipation -- up to 10 percent.
Other common Onfi side effects, occurring in 5 to 9 percent of people, included:
- Difficulty swallowing
- Urinary tract infection (UTI), such as a bladder infection
- Decreased appetite
- Increased appetite
- Difficulty speaking
