Neurontin Sexual Side Effects

Neurontin and Impotence

Neurontin may also cause impotence in men. Impotence is often defined as a total inability to achieve erection, an inconsistent ability to do so, or a tendency to sustain only brief erections. Ultimately, impotence is the repeated inability to get or keep an erection that is firm enough for sexual intercourse. In clinical studies where side effects of Neurontin were documented, impotence occurred in up to 1.5 percent of men taking the drug. However, because as many as 1.1 percent of a similar group of men not taking Neurontin also reported impotence, it is difficult to know if Neurontin actually increases this risk.

Final Thoughts on Neurontin Sexual Side Effects

It is impossible for your healthcare provider to know whether you will develop any of these Neurontin sexual side effects. Also, if a person does develop sexual side effects, it is difficult to know if these problems are caused by other conditions or problems or by Neurontin.

If you develop sexual side effects while taking Neurontin, talk with your healthcare provider. He or she may be able to recommend treatments. Depending on how severe your Neurontin sexual side effects are, he or she may also recommend that you adjust your Neurontin dosage or try another medication for epilepsy or nerve pain.
