If you have epilepsy or nerve pain caused by shingles, your healthcare provider may prescribe Neurontin® (gabapentin). Although it is not exactly clear how the medication works, it is thought to affect certain calcium channels in the brain.
 
It is possible to take too much Neurontin. Make sure to seek immediate medical attention if you think you may have overdosed on the medication. Some signs of an overdose can include difficulty breathing, double vision, or diarrhea.
