Onfi Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative reactions that can occur when Onfi is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Alcohol increases the level of Onfi in the blood by approximately 50 percent. Alcohol should be avoided while you are taking this medication.
CYP 2C19 Inhibitors
The liver breaks down Onfi using certain enzymes known as CYP 2C19 enzymes. Medications known as CYP 2C19 inhibitors decrease the activity of these enzymes, potentially increasing the level of Onfi in the blood. If you must take Onfi with one of these medications, your Onfi dosage may need to be reduced.
Hormonal Birth Control
Onfi can decrease the level of birth control hormones in the blood, perhaps increasing your risk of pregnancy. If you take Onfi, an additional nonhormonal method of birth control, such as condoms, is recommended.
Other Medications That Cause Drowsiness
Onfi has a tendency to cause drowsiness. Combining Onfi with other medications that cause drowsiness could potentially cause serious problems, such as extreme drowsiness, confusion, memory loss, or difficulty breathing.

Final Thoughts

It is possible that not all Onfi drug interactions were discussed in this article. Therefore, you should talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about the specific interactions that may apply to you.
