Lyrica® (pregabalin) is often used for the treatment of nerve pain, epilepsy, and fibromyalgia. Specifically, this drug is approved to treat the following conditions:
  • Diabetic peripheral neuropathy -- This medication is used to treat nerve pain associated with this condition
  • Epilepsy -- Lyrica is used along with other seizure medications to treat a certain type of seizures called partial seizures
  • Fibromyalgia -- This drug is helpful for relieving fibromyalgia pain
  • Postherpetic neuralgia -- Lyrica can be used to treat nerve pain that occurs after an outbreak of shingles


  • Spinal cord injury -- Lyrica is approved to treat nerve pain associated with spinal cord injury. 


Although most people do not experience problems with this drug, Lyrica can cause side effects. Some of the common ones include drowsiness, dizziness, and coordination problems. Before starting treatment, talk to your healthcare provider about any other medical conditions you may have or any other medications you are taking (including vitamins and herbal supplements).
The drug comes in capsule and liquid form. It is taken by mouth, usually two or three times a day. Lyrica capsules are available in eight strengths, ranging from 25 mg to 300 mg. For more Lyrica drug information, talk to your pharmacist or healthcare provider.
