Although most people appear to respond well to
Lyrica® (
pregabalin), this medication may not be suitable for everyone. In order to help minimize risks, make sure to talk to your healthcare provider about the safety of Lyrica before you begin treatment.
Since Lyrica can worsen certain medical conditions, it is important to talk to your healthcare provider prior to taking the medication if you have:
- A history of drug or alcohol abuse
- Kidney disease, including kidney failure (renal failure)
- Heart disease, especially congestive heart failure (CHF)
- An irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
- A bleeding disorder
- Any allergies, including allergies to food, dyes, or preservatives.
There are also a number of potential side effects with Lyrica that you should look out for during the treatment process. Some of the most common side effects that have been reported with Lyrica include weight gain, drowsiness, dizziness, and coordination problems. While most side effects of the medicine are minor and do not require medical attention, you should contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience unusual bruising or bleeding, vision changes, or difficulty breathing.
