Lyrica for Fibromyalgia

Lyrica® (pregabalin) has been approved to treat several conditions, including fibromyalgia. Lyrica has been shown to effectively relieve pain caused by this condition.

Two clinical studies evaluated the use of Lyrica for fibromyalgia. In these studies, the drug was effective at treating pain associated with the condition. Some people taking the medication experienced pain relief as quickly as within one week. In general, these studies found that 600 mg per day was not more effective than 450 mg per day, but did cause an increase in side effects.

Although it is not exactly clear how Lyrica works for fibromyalgia, it may affect specific calcium channels in the brain.
