Lyrica® (
pregabalin) is a prescription medication used to treat several conditions, including diabetic peripheral neuropathy,
epilepsy,
fibromyalgia, and
postherpetic neuralgia. Eight different strengths are available, and Lyrica 300 mg capsules are the highest strength on the market. Before recommending a dosage, your healthcare provider will consider several factors, such as the condition being treated, other medical conditions you may have, and other medications you are currently taking.
For example, a healthcare provider may prescribe Lyrica 300 mg capsules twice daily to treat postherpetic neuralgia (chronic nerve pain following an episode of
shingles) if a lower dose of the medication has not been effective for two to four weeks.
You can take Lyrica with or without food. Try taking it with food if the medication upsets your stomach. Your dosage should be taken at the same times each day to maintain an even level in your blood. Keep in mind that Lyrica 300 mg capsules will not work if you stop taking them. Talk to your healthcare provider first if you want to discontinue treatment.
