Lamictal® (
lamotrigine) is often prescribed for the treatment of
seizures in people with
epilepsy. It is also approved to be used as a mood stabilizer to treat
bipolar disorder. Although most people respond to this medication well, some people have reported problems with it during clinical studies.
In these studies, the most common side effects reported with Lamictal include:
- Dizziness -- in up to 54 percent of people
- Double vision -- up to 49 percent
- Headaches -- up to 29 percent
- Coordination problems -- up to 28 percent
- Blurred vision -- up to 25 percent
- Nausea -- up to 25 percent
- Vomiting -- up to 20 percent.
In most cases, side effects of Lamictal are minor and can be treated easily, if they even need to be treated at all. However, certain side effects (while occurring infrequently) are potentially serious and should be reported to your healthcare provider right away, including any unusual bruising or bleeding, severe muscle pain, or frequent infections.
