Lamictal for Migraines

Lamictal for Migraines: A Summary

Lamictal is a seizure medication that is also approved to treat bipolar disorder. It is not approved to treat migraines. However, early studies suggest that it may be useful for preventing them, especially migraines with aura. Given that very little research has been published concerning the use of Lamictal for migraines, other treatments may be more appropriate until the drug has been shown to be safe and effective for this use. It may be a reasonable treatment option for migraines with severe, prolonged, or debilitating aura, especially if other medications have already been tried.
