Klonopin Side Effects

Common side effects of Klonopin include drowsiness, dizziness, and upper respiratory tract infections. Other less common problems can include back pain, ear infections, and nosebleeds. While side effects generally require little or no treatment, it is possible to experience more serious problems while taking this medication. If you experience problems such as hostility, suicidal thoughts, or agitation, notify your healthcare provider right away.

An Introduction to Klonopin Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Klonopin® (clonazepam). However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Klonopin Side Effects

Klonopin has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials, in which the side effects of a group of people taking the drug are documented and compared to another group not taking the medicine.
 As a result, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine.
 
In these studies, the most common side effects of Klonopin included:
 
  • Drowsiness -- in up to 50 percent of people
  • Coordination problems -- up to 30 percent
  • Behavior problems -- up to 25 percent
  • Dizziness -- up to 12 percent
  • Upper respiratory tract infections (such as the common cold) -- up to 10 percent.
