Klonopin Medicine

A prescription medicine, Klonopin^® (clonazepam) is a product that is commonly prescribed for the treatment of panic disorder and certain types of epileptic seizures.

Seizures

Epilepsy is a brain condition involving sudden, brief changes in the electrical system of the brain. There are over 30 different types of seizures a person with epilepsy may experience. Klonopin is used to treat the following types of seizures:

Akinetic seizures (also known as atonic seizures), which are characterized by a sudden loss of muscle tone, causing "drop attacks"
Myoclonic seizures, which are characterized by sudden, brief muscle jerks
Absence seizures, which are characterized by brief periods of decreased awareness or "spacing out"
Seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (a severe form of epilepsy).

Panic Disorder

Panic disorder is a specific type of anxiety disorder. Sometimes, people deal with panic disorder by avoiding situations and places that may lead to a panic attack. This can lead people to avoid social interaction and can cause people to become "housebound." This problem is known as agoraphobia and often accompanies panic disorder. Klonopin is approved to treat panic disorder and can be used to treat people with or without agoraphobia.
