Klonopin Indications

Klonopin® (clonazepam) is a prescription drug that belongs to a class of medications known as benzodiazepines. There are several indications for Klonopin. For example, the medicine is licensed to treat:


    • Seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (a severe form of epilepsy)
    • Akinetic seizures (also known as atonic seizures), which are characterized by a sudden loss of muscle tone, causing "drop attacks"
    • Myoclonic seizures, which are characterized by sudden, brief muscle jerks
    • Absence seizures, which are characterized by brief periods of decreased awareness or "spacing out."


On occasion, healthcare providers may recommend Klonopin for "off-label" purposes, to treat something other than the conditions listed in this article. Currently, off-label uses of the drug include the treatment of the following conditions:
