Klonopin Indications

Klonopin^® (clonazepam) is a prescription drug that belongs to a class of medications known as benzodiazepines. There are several indications for Klonopin. For example, the medicine is licensed to treat:

Panic disorder
Epileptic seizures, particularly the following types of seizures:

Seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (a severe form of epilepsy)
Akinetic seizures (also known as atonic seizures), which are characterized by a sudden loss of muscle tone, causing "drop attacks"
Myoclonic seizures, which are characterized by sudden, brief muscle jerks
Absence seizures, which are characterized by brief periods of decreased awareness or "spacing out."

On occasion, healthcare providers may recommend Klonopin for "off-label" purposes, to treat something other than the conditions listed in this article. Currently, off-label uses of the drug include the treatment of the following conditions:

Alcohol withdrawal
Insomnia
Other types of anxiety (other than panic disorder)
Restless legs syndrome (RLS).
