Klonopin® (
clonazepam) is a benzodiazepine medication used for treating
panic disorder and epileptic
seizures. It is available by prescription only and comes in the form of tablets and wafers (orally disintegrating tablets), in the following strengths:
- 0.5 mg tablets
- 1 mg tablets
- 2 mg tablets
- 0.125 mg wafers
- 0.25 mg wafers
- 0.5 mg wafers
- 1 mg wafers
- 2 mg wafers.
The recommended starting dosage for the treatment of
seizures in adults is 0.5 mg of Klonopin (or less) three times daily. Your healthcare provider may slowly increase your dose as necessary to control your seizures, up to a maximum of Klonopin 20 mg total per day (split up into three smaller doses per day). For infants and children, your child's healthcare provider will calculate the starting dose based on your child's weight.
The usual starting Klonopin dose for the treatment of panic disorder is 0.25 mg twice daily. Your healthcare provider may increase your dose, if necessary, to control your panic disorder symptoms. This medication is not approved for treating panic disorder in children.
