There are several factors to consider when it comes to Felbatol dosing. For instance, your healthcare provider will consider your age, kidney function, and other medications you are taking before recommending an amount. Felbatol comes in tablet and liquid form, and is typically taken three or four times a day. In order for this medicine to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed.
An Introduction to Dosing With FelbatolThe dose of Felbatol® (felbamate) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
- How well your kidneys function
- Your age
- Weight (for children)
- Other medications you are taking
- Other medical conditions you may have.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
Felbatol Dosage for Partial SeizuresFor treating partial seizures, Felbatol is usually started at a dosage of 1200 mg a day, divided into three or four doses. Typically, your healthcare provider will slowly increase this amount until your seizures are adequately controlled. If you are taking other seizure medications, the doses of these drugs will usually be decreased when Felbatol is started to help minimize side effects. The maximum Felbatol dose is 3600 mg a day.
Because the kidneys remove Felbatol from the body, people with poor kidney function due to kidney failure or other causes are usually given lower dosages of this medication.
