All About Epilepsy
When clusters of nerve cells, called neurons, fire abnormally, it causes abnormal activity in the brain that typically results in seizures. We know this condition as epilepsy, but it is also referred to as seizure disorder. There are many different causes, ranging from a brain injury to certain diseases; however, mental retardation is not a cause of epilepsy.
Treatment for this condition typically begins as soon as it is diagnosed, and although there is no epilepsy cure, people often are able to live a seizure-free life with treatment, or at least experience a decreased frequency in their number of seizures.
