Dilantin Alternatives

If side effects occur during treatment with Dilantin or if the medicine does not adequately control a person's seizures, alternatives to Dilantin may be considered. Some common Dilantin alternatives include other seizure medications, surgery, and special diets. Dilantin® (phenytoin) is a prescription medication used to treat seizures in people with epilepsy.
