Problems With Diazepam

Healthcare providers may prescribe diazepam (Valium®) for the treatment of anxiety, muscle spasms, alcohol withdrawal, and seizures. Most people appear to tolerate this medication well, but there are some potential problems with diazepam that you should be aware of before starting treatment.

In clinical studies, a number of side effects were reported with the drug. In most cases, these side effects were minor and either did not require medical attention or were treated easily. Coordination problems, drowsiness, and fatigue are some of the most common reactions that have been reported.

Diazepam problems that are much less common but are potentially serious (and should be reported to your healthcare provider right away) include difficulty breathing, insomnia, hallucinations, or suicidal thoughts.
