Interactions With Diazepam Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when diazepam is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
 
Alcohol
Combining alcohol with diazepam can increase your risk of side effects, such as drowsiness, confusion, memory loss, or difficulty breathing. Serious side effects may also occur. It is best to avoid alcohol while taking diazepam (see Valium and Alcohol).
 
Anesthetics
Combining anesthetics with diazepam can increase your risk of side effects, such as drowsiness, confusion, memory loss, or difficulty breathing. Serious side effects may also occur. Make sure your healthcare providers know you are taking diazepam before you undergo any surgical procedure.
 
Antidepressant Medications
Combining an antidepressant with diazepam can increase your risk of side effects, such as drowsiness, confusion, memory loss, or difficulty breathing. Serious side effects may also occur. Make sure to talk with your healthcare provider before taking diazepam with an antidepressant, as you may need to be monitored more closely.
 
Antipsychotic Medications
Combining an antipsychotic medication with diazepam can increase your risk of side effects, such as drowsiness, confusion, memory loss, or difficulty breathing. Serious side effects may also occur. Make sure to talk with your healthcare provider before taking diazepam with an antipsychotic medication.
 
Barbiturates
Combining a barbiturate with diazepam can increase your risk of side effects, such as drowsiness, confusion, memory loss, or difficulty breathing. Serious side effects may also occur. Make sure to talk with your healthcare provider before taking diazepam with a barbiturate.
