Diazepam (Valium®) is a medication licensed for the treatment of seizures, anxiety, muscle spasms, and alcohol withdrawal. By enhancing the effects of a certain chemical in the brain, the drug can help cause sleepiness, reduce anxiety, stop seizures, and relax muscles. Diazepam is available by prescription only and comes in tablet, oral liquid, and injectable forms. Before using this medicine, talk to your healthcare provider if you have glaucoma, liver disease, or a history of drug or alcohol abuse.
