Diastat Drug Interactions

Prior to taking Diastat, be sure to tell your healthcare provider about all of the medications you are taking to avoid potential Diastat drug interactions. When it is taken with other drugs, such as antidepressants, antipsychotic medications, and some seizure medications, it can cause problems. Some of these Diastat drug interactions can increase your risk of side effects, such as drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty breathing.

An Overview of Diastat Drug Interactions

Diastat® (diazepam rectal gel) can potentially interact with other medications. Some of the medicines that may lead to Diastat drug interactions include:
 
  • Alcohol
 
  • Anesthetics
 
 
o Clozapine (Clozaril®, FazaClo®)
  • Barbiturates, including:
o Amobarbital (Amytal®)
o Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
o Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
o Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
o Secobarbital (Seconal®)
 
  • Other benzodiazepines, including:
 
  • Sleep medications.
