Depakote ER Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Depakote ER is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
 
Amitriptyline (Elavil)
Depakote ER can raise the level of amitriptyline in your blood, increasing your risk of amitriptyline side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your amitriptyline dosage.
 
Aspirin
Aspirin may affect the way your body handles Depakote ER, perhaps increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider will need to monitor you more closely and adjust your Depakote ER dosage as necessary.
 
Carbamazepine (Epitol, Equetro, Tegretol, Tegretol XR)
Taking carbamazepine with Depakote ER can decrease the level of Depakote ER in your blood, perhaps making it less effective. Taking these medications together may also affect the way your body handles carbamazepine, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider will monitor you more closely and adjust your doses of these medications if necessary.
 
Carbapenem Antibiotics
Carbapenem antibiotics may decrease the level of Depakote ER in your blood, perhaps making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your Depakote ER dosage.
 
Clonazepam (Klonopin)
Combining clonazepam with Depakote ER can increase your risk of absence seizures, especially if you have never had absence seizures before. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
 
Diazepam (Valium)
Depakote ER can raise the level of diazepam in your blood, increasing your risk of diazepam side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your diazepam dosage.
