Depakote ER, which is available by prescription, comes in tablet form and is usually taken once daily.
 
Side effects of Depakote ER may include nausea, drowsiness, and infections. A few of the conditions that you should tell your healthcare provider about before you take Depakote ER include liver disease (such as liver failure or cirrhosis), mental retardation, and a blood disorder.
