Who Should Not Take Carbatrol?

You should not take Carbatrol if you:
 
  • Are allergic to Carbatrol, carbamazepine, or any of the inactive components used to make Carbatrol. Your healthcare provider or pharmacist has a list of the inactive ingredients.
     
  • Have had bone marrow depression in the past. This is a blood disorder in which the bone marrow does not function properly to produce blood cells. You may have had bone marrow depression if you have ever had a low blood count on a laboratory test.
     
  • Are allergic to tricyclic antidepressants, such as:
  • Have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) within the past two weeks. MAOIs include:
